A Variety of Uses

7UP Soda

7UP was launched in 1929 in the United States. The lemon-lime was originally invented by Charles Grigg, who worked for years to create the ideal formula for making the 7UP soda. The initial ingredients Grigg used to make the drink involved lithium citrate, which was a common mood stabilizer. Later on, the mood stabilizer was removed from the drink's formula. 7UP soda was the first lemon-lime soda and drink to be launched in the world.

How's It Different from Other Lemon-Lime Sodas?

7UP soda is said to taste fizzier and more carbonated than other lemon-lime sodas. This extra carbonation gives 7UP more of a spark for your taste buds once it hits your tongue. Also, this lemon-lime drink is said to have a stronger taste than other lemon-lime sodas and fewer calories. 7UP soda also has 100% natural flavors and no added colors or artificial preservatives. Other lemon-lime sodas tend to use sodium salt. Meanwhile, 7UP uses potassium salt instead of sodium salt.

The pH Myth

There is a widely circulated myth about the name of 7UP. According to the myth, the lemon-lime soda derives its name from the belief that it has a pH value of over 7. However, that would make the soda taste more like water than the acidic effects it provides. In fact, the pH value of 7UP is actually around 3.79: making it fairly acidic.
