How Do You Keep Fresh Lily Flowers in a Vase?

Cut lily flowers create stunning arrangements that are quite simple to keep looking fresh and beautiful. With their long stems and multiple flowers that open at different intervals, lilies are a great choice for keeping fresh cut flowers throughout the home and office. After receiving the flowers, place the stems in a bucket of water. Cut each stem at a 45-degree angle, making sure to do the cutting under water to prevent air bubbles in the stem. Remove any leaves that are under the water line in your chosen vase. You'll want to use a vase that's large enough to keep four sets of leaves at the top of the flowers to provide plenty of nutrition for blooms that still need to open.

After cutting and trimming the fresh flower stems, fill your vase with clean water. Add a mixture of a half teaspoon bleach, a tablespoon of sugar and two tablespoons of fresh lemon juice to the vase, or use a floral preservative packet. Arrange the lily flowers in the vase and place it in an area out of direct sunlight and drafts. Change the water in the vase every two days, and remove any blooms and leaves that fade or turn brown to keep your arrangement looking fresh and vibrant.
